L'AUTRE VIE is a Canadian independent fragrance house. We name our fragrances after moments — not after ingredients, not after celebrities, not after invented places. After the kind of moments that happen and then disappear because no one thought to name them.
A table for two, name unknown. A platform at 11:58. The first morning in the woods. Snow at 2:13 AM. These are the lives that exist in the hours most people do not notice. Les Vies Possibles — the possible lives — is our collection of them.
Scent is a bridge. Between a place and the feeling of being there. Between a person and the time when they were close. Between a version of yourself and the life you were living when you last wore something that smelled like this.
The Other Life
The other life is not another lifetime. It is not a different existence waiting somewhere else, or a version of yourself that requires a different set of circumstances to appear. It is another way of living this one — with more attention, more presence, more willingness to notice what is already here.
It exists inside the same hours. In the quality of a morning. In a place you have passed a hundred times and finally stopped inside. In a conversation that opened something. In a scent that arrived before you were ready, and returned you somewhere you had not thought to look.
L'AUTRE VIE is not about regret. It is about recognition — that the other life is not somewhere else. It is here, in the same hours, available through a different quality of attention. A fragrance can be the thing that interrupts the ordinary long enough for that other life to become perceptible.
Why Scent Holds Moments
Scent reaches us differently from our other senses.
The olfactory system is closely connected to the parts of the brain involved in memory and emotion. Unlike sight, sound or touch, smell does not rely on the same early thalamic relay before reaching its primary cortical regions.
Perhaps that is why a fragrance can bring back a place, a person, or a moment before we have time to explain why.
A trace in the air can make something long past feel suddenly present again.
That is why L'AUTRE VIE begins with moments — not simply with notes, but with something worth remembering.

Within — a fragrance can reach something in you that language cannot always locate. A mood. A memory. A version of yourself that has been waiting quietly.
Around — scent is inseparable from place and time and other people. It adheres to rooms, to seasons, to the particular quality of a Tuesday afternoon when something shifted.
Beyond — some people experience something in a scent that exceeds the personal. A sense of the sacred, of gratitude, of mystery. We do not name that thing for you. We believe that is yours to name.

A Note from the Founder
There was a period in my life when the world became very small.
After moving across the world to Canada, I found myself between places, languages, and versions of who I had been. For a time, I lost my footing.
Slowly, I began to find my way back.
I travelled. I walked unfamiliar streets. I sat alone in cafés. I watched mornings arrive in cities where no one knew my name.
And somewhere along the way, I began to notice life differently.
Not the milestones.
The moments.
A hotel lobby early in the morning. An untouched cup on a table. Cold air through an open window. A conversation that may never happen again. The particular light of an afternoon that will never return in exactly the same way.
Those moments began to feel precious.
L'AUTRE VIE grew from that realization.
I did not come from the fragrance world. I came to it because scent seemed capable of holding what life does not — a place, a person, a feeling, a version of ourselves, a moment that disappears almost as soon as we recognize it.
For a long time, I thought another life meant somewhere else.
Now I understand it differently.
I don't want another life. I want to live this one differently.
To notice more. To be more present. To go farther. To hold on to the ordinary moments that so easily pass unnoticed.
That is what L'AUTRE VIE means to me: not another lifetime, but another way of living the life we already have.
Each fragrance begins there — with a moment worth remembering.
